Course Description:
In this one-hour course, we will discover the strengths and advantages of FEVE fluoropolymer topcoats. We will evaluate coating performance tests, including accelerated weathering and real-time weathering, and what the implications are for the life of different coatings. We will explore the many design possibilities that FEVE technology provides, and assess the sustainability benefits of FEVE topcoats, despite their high initial cost, compared to other topcoat formulations
HSW Justification:
There are aesthetic, health and safety aspects to the use of FEVE. FEVE powder resins provide exceptional weatherability, corrosion resistance and environmental benefits when used in exterior architectural coatings applications. These resins do not require a solvent (VOC) and can be used in formulations to meet the AAMA 2605 specification for high-performance exterior architectural coatings. Their long life protects substrate integrity, helping keep the occupant safer and healthier by maintaining building performance at optimum levels, longer.
Learning Objective 1:
Students will be able to define FEVE coating technology, history, and unique weatherability properties, as well as its ease of application in the architectural market
Learning Objective 2:
Students will become comfortable with discussing the importance of the form of coatings, including color, finish, and gloss range.
Learning Objective 3:
Students will discover the function of a fluoropolymer coating in terms of performance, substrates, and types.
Learning Objective 4:
Students will come to understand how sustainability and environmental impact relate to long-life coatings
